About the role

The National Maintenance Manager provides people, technical and safety leadership to GrainCorp’s port and country- based maintenance teams operating throughout QLD, NSW and VIC.

Reporting to the National Innovation, Design & Maintenance Manager, the role may be flexibly based from any of the following locations: QLD (Mackay, Gladstone, Brisbane), NSW (Tamworth, Newcastle, Wollongong, Wagga Wagga) or VIC (Geelong, Portland).

You’ll manage a team of 5 direct reports and a larger group of indirect reports (>100), providing leadership and support in a collaborative and inclusive manner.  You will foster a high-performance work culture through the development of an empowered and engaged team who work together to ensure the safe delivery of maintenance activities.


  • Ensure reliability centred maintenance principles are used to increase asset reliability and availability
  • Work closely with the National Assets & Standards Manager to ensure mobile equipment availability and reliability is maximised
  • Partner with the General Manager Lean to develop, design and implement LEAN principles to maintenance activities
  • Partner with Human Resources to develop strategies that maximise labour efficiency, minimise industrial relation disputes and increase team job satisfaction
  • Work with our procurement team so common materials are procured in an efficient and consistent approach across the whole network
  • Ensure maintenance managers work collaboratively to build consistency in process & asset management across all sites and ports
  • Ensure that maintenance managers conduct activities within the confines of the maintenance budget
  • Ensure harvest readiness is monitored, tracked and reported on in a timely manner.

This role involves regular intrastate and interstate travel.

About your experience

Our ideal candidate has deep / proven people and technical leadership experience of a large maintenance function within a heavy industrial environment. 

Additionally, you’ll have:

  • Extensive experience in reliability and critical spares management
  • Successful delivery of key continuous improvement initiatives
  • Experience in managing industrial relations matters
  • Experience in contract management and negotiations
  • Advanced conflict management and negotiation skills
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Processing, manufacturing, reliability, critical spares exp
  • Bonus: tertiary qualifications in mechanical or electrical engineering

In addition to providing proof of working rights and suitable professional referees, preferred candidates will be required to undertake a pre-employment medical. A current, valid driver’s licence is also required.
