About our team

GrainCorp connects more than 10,000 grain growers with local and international customers via Australia’s largest silo network, with a storage capacity of over 20 million tonnes, seven bulk port elevators and two specialty port terminals. Innovation, integration and partnership are the foundations on which we are growing into our second century with customers at the heart of all that we do.

About the role

We are currently seeking a Grain Handler for an immediate start at our Toobeah site (working at other nearby sites as required - these would include Bungunya and Tallwood). This ongoing position is offered under the GrainCorp Operations Limited - QLD Country Operations (AWU)

Grain handlers at our country grain storage sites are critical to ensuring that we service local grain growers and customers efficiently and safely in receiving, storing, maintaining and out-loading grain. The grains we handle include wheat, barley and canola mainly, but we also take in chickpeas, sorghum and other commodities.

The core activities of a grain handler include:

  • Sampling grain received at the site (spearing using automatic or manual spears and then testing for protein, moisture and contaminants against specifications, entering data into our system)
  • Receiving sampled grain via truck at the weighbridge and entering weights into our system
  • Monitoring the flow of grain from truck unloading and onto hopper, auger or other equipment
  • Protecting and storing grain in bunkers or permanent silo storage (includes building, breaking-down and tarping bunkers)
  • Sweeping, shovelling, blowing down dust and other general housekeeping activities including site presentation
  • Operating equipment including augers, tractors, hoppers, loaders.

The type of work you undertake depends on the skills, experience, knowledge and tickets or licences you hold as well as the requirements of the site at which you’re based. These attributes also help determine the grade we might appoint you at under our enterprise agreement. The agreement will also set out any provisions available to you such as loading, overtime, allowances, etc.

We provide you with the tools and training required to perform your job effectively and safely. We’re also proud to provide genuine opportunities for our people to take on more responsibility, allowing them to progress further, if desired.

About your experience

We’re seeking an individual who aligns to our values and especially a strong commitment to safety and customer service. You should have sound communication skills and relate well to others. The desire and willingness to learn and accept new challenges is essential.

Applicants with experience in general labouring work, trades and services, building and construction or transport and logistics would be suited to this work, though we are open-minded to a range of experiences. You ideally have an unrestricted driver’s licence, though a provisional licence is okay. Other licences or certifications would be advantageous but not essential (for example loader, skid-steer, H or M class licence, first aid).

In addition to providing proof of working rights, preferred candidates will be required to undertake a pre-employment medical.

Do you share our passion for contributing to the success of a diverse, international team?
