Compliance Officer (Line 1 Defence) - Sydney

Employment Type:  Permanent (Full Time)
Business Area:  Operations & Commercial
Division:  International Trading
Location:

Sydney, New South Wales, AU

A shared passion for our people.

Our people can be proud that, as a leading international agribusiness, we provide an increasingly important service across the food and beverage supply chain.

About our team

The world is growing at an unprecedented rate. As population climbs, food demand will surge. With operations in grains and oilseeds in Australia, Canada, China, Germany, India, New Zealand, UK and Ukraine, GrainCorp is an accomplished and diverse business partner operating at scale in a vital industry. And our people are central members of an international taskforce stepping up to meet that challenge.

About the role

The Compliance Officer in our international trading business provides a crucial first line of defence, protecting our business from financial crime and helping to reduce risk associated with our trading activities through the delivery of essential Know Your Customer (KYC) due diligence screening.

The role sits within our Trade Execution team, reports to the Head of Trade Execution in our Germany office and can expect to have day-to-day local support as well as frequent interaction with Group Risk, Assurance & Compliance (second line of defence).

Specifically, you will:

  • Conduct due diligence screening including PEP, sanctions (including OFAC), public database and other checks
  • Respond to third party requests for information, for example in relation to ISO checks
  • Reporting on customer compliance to traders in line with established procedures
  • Conduct audits on compliance activities and report to senior management and Group Risk on compliance matters
  • Facilitate training to educate internal stakeholders on compliance activities.

This would be an ideal development opportunity for someone with experience in conducting KYC checks and seeking to build on that through exposure to robust internal stakeholder discussions and an international grains trading business.

About your experience

Our ideal candidate has good experience in conducting KYC checks. You’ll ideally have gained this experience in a commodities trading environment, though this isn’t essential. You should have a good applied understanding of audit and compliance processes.

Finally, we’ll be looking for strong communication, influencing/negotiation, stakeholder engagement and prioritisation skills all of which will be essential to your success here.

In addition to providing proof of working rights and suitable professional referees, preferred candidates will be required to undertake a criminal history / credit / bankruptcy check.

Do you share our passion for contributing to the success of a diverse, international team?
