About the role

There’s an unprecedented acceleration taking place in the digital transformation of the global ag-commodities market. GrainCorp is proud to be part of that rising trend with the newly-established role of Commodity Quantitative Researcher in our International Trading team.

Under the leadership and guidance of our Proprietary Trader, you can expect to have real business impact along with genuine and accelerated professional growth.

With your existing, broad knowledge and understanding of the financial markets, assets, instruments and mechanics (esp. derivatives) you’ll have the opportunity to:

•    Build and maintain large databases that leverage rich proprietary and public industry source data, relevant to trading input variables
•    Build, test and deploy models covering a variety of topics such as agricultural commodity fundamentals, money flows, macroeconomics and much more
•    Generate trade ideas based on rigorous research methodologies and produce actionable material that supports trading strategy discussions and related forums
•    Develop monetizable trading systems and quantitative strategies
•    Manage end-to-end data science research projects.

About your experience

•    Undergraduate degree in a quantitative discipline (computer science, statistics, data science, mathematics); advanced degree (such as Masters) preferred
•    Advanced programming skill in Python or similar and ability to develop creative, efficient and well-documented coding solutions; exposure to major libraries such as Pandas, Matplotlib or NumPy preferred
•    Experience or capacity to build, maintain and evolve efficient databases; able to use API method for data collection
•    Willingness to work through data challenges from large-scale to sparse, or poor quality (requiring data engineering)
•    Strong analytical and mathematical ability including applied statistics, probability, linear algebra
•    Comfortable explaining and translating technical techniques and results to a variety of audiences
•    Experience in generating monetisable trading models and strategies (not essential).
