GrainCorp’s multi-disciplinary Innovation & Design team provide critical support and services for project and maintenance managers across the business. From proposal, our team undertakes the design (including detailed design) and documentation of functional specifications through to pre-delivery site inspection to ensure compliance and standards have been met. We work on a broad range of projects across our country and port operations and manufacturing businesses.

About the role

This position is initially offered as a 2-year fixed term contract with the potential to become permanent.

We’re seeking the services of a competent and enthusiastic individual to assist in the ongoing capital delivery and maintenance support for GrainCorp. The successful applicant will report to the Innovation & Design Manager and be based at the Newcastle Port Terminal in Northern NSW.

The work of the role will be diverse and challenging. Specifically, you can expect to:

  • Support the development of cost-effective viable solutions to help improve efficiency in the storage and handling of grain products
  • Assist in providing technical support to the maintenance group within GrainCorp assisting in fault finding, root cause analysis and remediation works
  • Assist in providing technical site support to the capital delivery team for factory testing and inspections, site supervision and management, as well as commissioning and performance testing for capital projects
  • Assist in developing capital projects in accordance with the business’ strategic plan
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of business cases, ensuring alignment to the project
  • Assist in managing the project portfolio within approved parameters in accordance with Project Management systems
  • Promote the inclusion of productivity improvement programs into capital works program
  • Provide feedback and continuous improvement input to Capital Management systems
  • Assist in ensuring concurrence with compliance programs and that project outcomes correspond with client’s brief
  • Assist in the conduct of a lesson-learnt review after each completed project, to ensure continuous learning culture
  • Monitor contractors’ compliance with WH&S procedures and assess WH&S performance at Tender level.

About your experience

Our ideal candidate is a recent graduate / or about to graduate, from advanced diploma, undergraduate or postgraduate studies in engineering with a major focus in civil and/or structural engineering.

You should also:

  • Have a strong focus on both safety and the environment and willingness to champion this course within GrainCorp
  • Possess good communication skills and willingness to work in a progressive multi-disciplined engineering team environment
  • Be self-motivated and capable of working alone with little supervision
  • Have a willingness and the ability to travel at short notice within the eastern states of Australia. (weekly only)
  • Be willing to challenge current practises and seek innovative and new technology to help improve both safety and efficiency within GrainCorp.

The role involves regular travel within GrainCorp’s network, largely on the east coast of Australia. As such your flexibility and willingness to be away from home / the office will be appreciated. You should have a valid, clean driver licence.

In addition to providing proof of working rights and suitable professional referees, preferred candidates will be required to undertake a pre-employment medical.
